Solace is to give comfort or consolation, and that is what I hope my blog will give you

Welcome first of all. Thanks for stopping by. Pour yourself a cuppa and peruse at your leisure. Simple Solace was created out of honestly, selfishness; my own need for a reminder of comfort and serenity. The aim of this blog will be to provide whoever reads this a pinch of peace in a time where there may not be so much of that around.

Comfort

What is comfort? According to the dictionary it is: "A state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint" or "The easing or alleviation of a person's feelings".

As humans, pressure and stress (aka discomfort) can cause a tidal wave of health problems, which is why finding what comforts and calms you is so important.

Comfort is so much more than just material. It is feeling at one with your surroundings. Having peace with your own body and mind. Finding what brings you joy in the simplest of terms. A walk in nature, perhaps. Baking your favourite cake. Playing a musical instrument .... the list is endless. For me, I'm a hugger; much to the dislike of some of my friends upon whom I force hugs (pre-pandemic, of course). I'm lover - I love love. Give me all things cosy: blankets, a fireplace, candles, vegan chocolate (I'm lactose intolerant) and fill my ears with music. Those are a few of my favourite things that bring me joy. This blog will explore those possibilities and due to lockdown, the physical exploration at the moment will be in and around Cardiff, my hometown.

A 2018 study carried out by the Mental Health Foundation found that 74% of brits felt overwhelmed or unable to cope with stress. Now, I'm no scientist, but that shouldn't be the case! I used to be one of those people. Layering on and not addressing the stresses of normal (or not so normal) life until that burden got too big to bear and then along came an anxiety attack. Not fun. We all need something that provides us with a sense of comfort to avoid that onset of unease.

So, when you start to feel off balance, out of your comfort zone (though that is sometimes vital to help you grow!) or far removed from any sense of peace, have a look on here. You may see something useful.

So to conclude my 'what this is all for' spiel, it's simple: Solace.

Stay tuned for my concoctions of comfort and its sweet simplicity.

Evie x
